Cheer the Other Team: Was 2003 the longest year yet? And not even a leap day to prove it. Airports, discipline, sudden weight loss, rented convertibles and trucks, tottering stacks of every single day's newspapers, 20,000 emails in four months. The rich finally felt rich again by year's end. The wars became permanent. I paid some bills (whatever you want that to mean). The two coasts got much closer. We're perpetual optimists, although we took a few weeks off from that as summer died. 2003 proved that one's worldview really is absolutely between one's ears. Most of this music is from this year, a little from last, and one thing from the 90's (couldn't help myself). Yes, it's a year of sad beautiful songs, but if my sensitive Scorpio nature can take it, so can yours. Stick it out. And really: what have you done for me lately? I love you already, 2004. I am still a romantic, no matter what.
