do you ever feel annoyed by the weird people who pop up around an artist? sort of like a sublimation of their personality. never experienced it before last night. i was confused.

i mean, i know it happens in "THE THEATER" for christsakes but... everyday genius=generosity, right? one should get excited, not protective around a generous vision, no?

the factory imploded, but jack smith rocked.

maybe i am confusing celebrity with artist, or something?

i mean, i practically grew up at parties. i didn't get this.

I love you when you are confusing, and then again when you are looking tough.

My interpretation is: restaurant pre-opening party for That Matt Barney (as Sara's mom says)? With icky people?

Okay: yes. I hate the hangers-on who are sort of doing something and are sort of not doing ANYTHING of any use and often it's hard to tell the difference between. Are you a life-sucking eurodog or a funny inventive mensch? You can never tell until it's too late.

It's funny that you mentioned THE factory because every big artist is A factory, particularly That Matt Barney. God bless him, he didn't ask for it (or maybe he did) but he DID ask for it in that neighborhood in that outfit at that time of night. Apart from him, in general capital-A Art is a Big Business once you fuck your way past the middle and lubriciously coast your way to the top. Lots of people are making money off you and they really really care about their dollars.

I think you're right: those remoras might actually be a manifestation of parts of the artist's personality. We are our friends, they say. We probably are our groupies too. ⊕
