Gawker Media Traffic For November

trafficdetail.jpgNovember was certainly a nice jump in traffic across the sites -- click the image at left for the full graph -- with an increase of 6 million total page views, up to a total of 29 million from 23 million in October. Expect nothing like that for December. The election is over, Tara Reid's breasts haven't exposed themselves in weeks, and it's Christmas, when readers turn off their computers and spend time with their families... for a few hours, at least, until they remember that they like the internet more.

Gawker had a substantial gain in November, adding more than a million page views to the previous month's total -- and growing 42% over three months previous. Wonkette did quite well, a 15% growth in November on top of a 55% growth in October. Fleshbot had a rather astounding gain of 3 1/2 million page views. Defamer has sailed by the 2-million-views-per-month level. Gizmodo continues merrily, with just about 6 million page views in November.

And the new boys -- Jalopnik, Kotaku, and Screenhead -- are establishing themselves well. It's not really a fair comparison, but on average those three are each doing the same amount of traffic in only their second full month that Gizmodo had in the seventh month after its own launch.

That being said, though it's "critically acclaimed" (and I personally really like the site), I'm underwhelmed by the traffic on Screenhead -- it had a far better first month than Kotaku and Jalopnik, but those two had traffic gains of 20% and 10% respectively, while Screenhead's decreased a bit. Eh, maybe I'm being greedy. Also, Kotaku had some early editorial difficulties which affected traffic; they have since been ironed out.

For those who care, here's Alexa's take on Gizmodo and Engadget:

And, to end on a catty note -- really these traffic numbers are about transparency, but in this case I can't help myself -- there's Fleshbot versus Nerve:
