June 30, 2004This piece is unbelievably long, and almost none of you will read it. You should, it's fascinating. Also, it's rather shocking how much the story of the Iraqi National Congress Information Collection Program -- which is how lots of bad information ended up in lots of good newspapers, in short -- reads like the backstory of a Joan Didion book -- the novels certainly, but much more similarly, Miami. I always figured she was just a wee bit paranoid, but you get a good whiff of this kind of crazy and seriously, you start seeing the black helicopters everywhere.
